Family and genus

Cannabis (Cannabis sativa and related taxa) belongs to the hemp family (Cannabaceae) — which also includes hops (Humulus). The plant is dioecious: male and female inflorescences develop on separate individuals; in cultivation female plants are usually kept to obtain unpollinated flowers («buds») with a maximum of glandular hairs — trichomes. Resin, cannabinoids and terpenes are produced in the trichomes; they define the aroma and effect.

Cultivar and breeding

Rainbow Galactic (also listed as Galactic Rainbow in some catalogues) is a hybrid cultivar bred by the seed bank Wizard Trees. It was obtained by crossing the Pluto and RS11 lines; RS11 has California genetics in its lineage (Zkittlez, OG Kush, Pink Guava). The strain is sativa-dominant: elongated internodes, longer flowering cycle and an uplifting, non-heavy effect.

Inflorescence morphology

Female flowers are dense, with many pistils and trichomes; when mature, trichomes can turn milky-white or amber. Colour of bracts and leaves ranges from green to purple (anthocyanins often intensify under cooler night temperatures). Aroma and flavour are dominated by citrus, sweet berries and tropical wood notes — driven by terpenes (including limonene, caryophyllene).

Cannabinoids and effect

Glandular trichomes accumulate THC (typically in the 18–26% range for this strain), CBD and other cannabinoids. Effect comes on quickly: mild euphoria, uplift, stimulation without strong sedation — typical of sativa-dominant lines. In the botanical garden collection Rainbow Galactic is presented as an example of modern hybridisation and the diversity of cannabis cultivars.
