Family and tropical-fruit profile

Cannabis (genus Cannabis, family Cannabaceae) accumulates terpenes in glandular trichomes that define aroma and partly the type of effect. Tropical and cherry-citrus profiles are often linked to terpinolene, limonene and linalool; nutty and peppery notes to caryophyllene. The cultivar Tropical Cherry (also listed as Tropicana Cherry, Trop. cherry) is an example of terpene-forward breeding in the tropical-floral aroma style.

Cultivar and breeding

Tropical Cherry was bred by Relentless Genetics (Colorado). Lineage: Tropicana Cookies × Cherry Cookies (some sources cite Cherry Cookies F3). Tropicana Cookies is a cross of Girl Scout Cookies (GSC) and Tangie, giving bright citrus and tangerine tones; Cherry Cookies combines Cherry Pie and GSC and adds cherry and doughy notes. The result is a fixed profile: sweet-and-sour citrus, ripe cherry, nutty earth, berries and light tea notes. Type is sativa-dominant hybrid (about 60% sativa / 40% indica). Flowers are large, rounded, forest green with purple undertones, light amber pistils, and abundant trichomes.

Awards

A Tropicana Cherry phenotype took 1st place at the Michigan Cannabis Cup in 2022. The strain is popular with fans of terpene-forward lines and a «tropical» aroma.

Terpenes, aroma and effect

Dominant terpene is terpinolene (fruity and floral); supported by limonene (citrus), linalool (floral), and beta-caryophyllene (mild pepper). Terpene content in quality cuts often exceeds 2% by weight in dried flower. Aroma when rubbed or consumed is rich, sour, with a sharp citrus overtone; flavour — citrus, ripe cherry, nutty earth, berries. THC is typically 16–24% (often around 24%), CBG about 1%. Effect is energising, mood lift, stimulation without heavy sedation; suited to daytime use. In the botanical collection Tropical Cherry is presented as a sativa-dominant line with a tropical-cherry terpene profile and competition recognition.
