  • 4Beer serves as a political statement for cannabis reform

General Washington’s Secret Stash, a CBD-infused beer from Colorado, has received approval for distribution across all 50 states in the United States. This marks a significant milestone for Dad and Dudes Brewery, which had been selling the beer locally under the name Cannabeer. The beer contains CBD, a non-psychoactive compound found in cannabis, but does not include THC, the compound responsible for the high associated with marijuana

Mason Hembree, co-owner of Dad and Dudes, emphasized the health benefits of CBD, describing it as an antioxidant and neuroprotective ingredient. Hembree sees the inclusion of CBD in their beer as a responsible choice, noting its potential positive effects on health. The brewery faced numerous regulatory hurdles and had to undergo extensive testing to ensure compliance with federal guidelines before gaining approval for nationwide distribution

The brewing process for the CBD-infused beer was refined to ensure the preservation of CBD throughout production. According to Hembree, timing was crucial, as adding CBD too early in the brewing process could cause it to bind with yeast and lose effectiveness. With the patent for their brewing method secured, Dad and Dudes now hold the exclusive rights to this unique combination of hops and cannabis

Beyond its health benefits, Hembree views the beer as a political statement advocating for cannabis reform. He argues that cannabis, including hemp, should be removed from the list of illegal substances at the federal level. The beer's name, General Washington’s Secret Stash, playfully nods to the historical figure's rumored appreciation for hemp and cannabis, aligning with the rebellious spirit of the product

Looking forward, Dad and Dudes plan to showcase their CBD-infused beers at the upcoming Great American Beer Festival in October. They aim to expand their lineup with various styles, including an IPA, a double IPA, and a cream ale. The successful national rollout of General Washington’s Secret Stash could pave the way for greater acceptance and innovation in the cannabis-infused beverage industry
