Dr. Bomi Joseph's Hop-Derived CBD Claims Exposed as Fraudulent

Dr. Bomi Joseph's claims of extracting CBD from hops have been debunked as fraudulent, revealing a sophisticated scam that misled both the public and industry

Key Points

  • 1Dr. Bomi Joseph's hop-derived CBD claims exposed as fraudulent
  • 2Humulus Kriya, the supposed CBD-rich hop variety, proven non-viable
  • 3Dr. Volker Christoffel dismisses hop-derived CBD claims as nonsensical
  • 4Joseph's scheme unravelled due to plagiarism, not scientific flaws
  • 5Joseph's true identity revealed as Moses Sunith Prasad Joseph, a convicted fraudster

In a remarkable turn of events, Dr. Bomi Joseph, who claimed to have developed a method to extract CBD from hops, has been exposed as a fraud, according to a report by Pot Network. The supposed breakthrough had garnered significant media attention and led to distribution agreements with companies like Isodiol and Medical Marijuana Inc. However, the entire premise of hop-derived CBD has now been debunked, revealing a sophisticated scam that misled both the public and the industry

Dr. Joseph's claims centered around a unique variety of hops named Humulus Kriya, which he alleged contained a gene responsible for CBD production. This variety was purportedly cultivated to maximize CBD levels, resulting in a product patented under the brand name ImmunAg™. The allure of a non-cannabis-derived CBD product, free from THC and regulatory restrictions, made it an attractive proposition for companies and consumers alike

However, Dr. Volker Christoffel, an expert in the chemical composition of cannabidiol, dismissed the claims as nonsensical. He explained that while hops and cannabis share some genetic similarities, the presence of cannabinoids in hops is minimal and commercially non-viable. Furthermore, he noted the impossibility of developing CBD without also producing THC, highlighting a fundamental flaw in Joseph's assertions

The unraveling of Dr. Joseph's scheme was not due to these scientific inconsistencies but rather his blatant plagiarism. Joseph had been reproducing scientific articles, including those by Dr. Christoffel, with minor modifications in his own journal, the Journal of Medical Phyto Research. These articles were never subject to peer review, raising serious questions about their legitimacy

Adding to the intrigue, Dr. Joseph's true identity was revealed to be Moses Sunith Prasad Joseph, a man with a criminal past in financial fraud. He had previously been convicted for stealing over $20 million from major banks in the early 2000s. His fraudulent activities extended to his business dealings in the CBD industry, where he allegedly purchased cannabis-derived CBD oil at discounted rates under false pretenses

The implications of this scandal are profound, casting doubt on the legitimacy of products like Real Scientific Humulus Oil, which continue to be sold by reputable companies. The case serves as a cautionary tale about the importance of scientific validation and transparency in the cannabis industry. Moving forward, industry stakeholders must exercise greater diligence to prevent similar deceptions from occurring
