A major conference on the legalization of personal cannabis use is taking place today at the European Parliament in Brussels. Titled 'Legalisation of Personal Use of Cannabis: Exchange of Best Practices,' the event is accessible via live stream, allowing a broader audience to engage with the discussions

Organized by members of the 'Legalise it EP' campaign, the conference brings together European Parliament members and experts from countries with varying legal statuses on cannabis. The campaign, established in July, includes notable figures such as Cyrus Engerer from Malta and Monica Semedo from Luxembourg

The event features two key panel discussions. The first, beginning at 9:30 AM, focuses on sharing experiences from regions like Colorado, Malta, Canada, and Uruguay, which have already implemented cannabis legalization. The second panel, starting at 10:30 AM, will explore legalization plans within the EU, highlighting developments in the Czech Republic, Germany, Ireland, and Luxembourg

Despite the absence of Switzerland and the Netherlands, the conference aims to foster dialogue on cannabis policy among EU nations. This initiative reflects a growing interest in reevaluating cannabis regulations across Europe, potentially influencing future legislative changes

Looking forward, the conference could mark a pivotal step in harmonizing cannabis laws across the EU. By examining successful models and current plans, European lawmakers may find pathways to create unified policies that address both economic and social aspects of cannabis use
