A toddler in the Netherlands fell into a coma after consuming cannabis-laced sweets from a Haribo-branded bag, prompting the company to issue a recall across the Benelux region. The incident was reported in the Twente region, where two young children were hospitalized after consuming the contaminated sweets. One child required transfer to a specialist hospital due to the severity of their condition

The affected product is the 1kg bags of Happy Cola F!ZZ with a use-by date of January 2026. Haribo has warned consumers to avoid these specific batches. The local newspaper Tubantia noted that the sweets were sold by the drugstore chain Medikamente Die Grenze, and the police found traces of cannabis in three bags during their investigation

Authorities, including the prosecution service and the NVWA food safety regulator, are investigating the situation to determine how the contamination occurred. A hospital spokesperson confirmed that the children are recovering well after treatment, emphasizing the serious risks of cannabis in sweets. No further cases have been reported, but the recall aims to prevent any additional incidents
