Skyworld, a New York-based cannabis brand, has announced a strategic partnership with the Last Prisoner Project (LPP) to address the ongoing impacts of the War on Drugs. This collaboration, revealed on January 6, 2026, aims to raise awareness and mobilize support within the legal cannabis industry, while generating resources for those affected by past drug policies

Operating under LPP’s Partners for Freedom program, the partnership invites New York dispensaries to join the Roll It Up for Justice initiative, allowing customers to donate at checkout to support LPP’s mission. This initiative aims to integrate support for criminal justice reform into everyday transactions, making it easier for retailers to participate without major overhauls to their marketing strategies

Skyworld has chosen to spotlight a specific cannabis strain, White Apple Runtz, as part of this campaign, using it to symbolize the ongoing struggle against outdated drug laws. The strain, nicknamed "WAR," serves as a reminder of the War on Drugs and is positioned to draw consumer attention to the cause. Skyworld emphasizes that this is not just a marketing gimmick but a call to action for justice and reform

The collaboration highlights the need for continued advocacy as cannabis legalization expands but does not automatically rectify the past injustices of prohibition. Stephanie Shepard, acting executive director of LPP, praised Skyworld's leadership in setting an example for how cannabis companies can contribute meaningfully to criminal justice reform. The partnership underscores the belief that true legalization must include addressing the harm caused by prohibition

Skyworld’s initiative is also a reflection of its core values rooted in Indigenous tradition, focusing on ethical stewardship and community support. Alex Anderson, co-founder and CEO, emphasized the brand's commitment to pairing premium cannabis with purpose, aiming to shine a light on those still incarcerated for cannabis offenses. This partnership with LPP formalizes Skyworld's dedication to social justice, using its platform to advocate for freedom and healing
