  • 4French National Assembly is investigating cannabis uses
  • 5SPC's white paper aims to influence policy discussions

The Syndicat Professionnel du Chanvre (SPC) has released a new white paper focused on the development of the hemp wellness sector in France. This document, crafted by Augur Associates, aims to consolidate existing knowledge on non-medical and non-psychoactive hemp products, which contain a maximum of 0.3% THC and typically include cannabidiol (CBD). This initiative follows a previous white paper on medical cannabis, reflecting SPC's ongoing efforts to address regulatory challenges in the French market

Currently, the growth of the hemp wellness sector in France is hindered by stringent regulations, particularly concerning the use of hemp flowers. SPC argues that it is crucial to reform these regulations to establish a new, regulated industry. This push for change coincides with the French National Assembly's investigation into various cannabis uses, indicating a potential shift in the legislative landscape

The white paper not only compiles existing data but also presents proposals from industry stakeholders to support the development of a stable and responsible French hemp industry. These recommendations are aimed at creating a structured framework that would enable the sector to thrive while ensuring consumer safety and product quality. By facilitating dialogue among industry players, SPC hopes to drive legislative changes that will benefit the entire hemp ecosystem

The regulatory environment in France has been a significant barrier to the expansion of the hemp wellness market. Despite the increasing global acceptance of hemp products, French authorities remain cautious, largely due to concerns over THC content and potential misuse. However, the SPC's proactive approach, as outlined in the white paper, could pave the way for more flexible policies that align with European Union standards

Looking ahead, the SPC's white paper is expected to influence the ongoing discussions within the French government about cannabis regulation. By providing a comprehensive overview of the hemp wellness industry and its potential benefits, the document serves as a critical resource for policymakers. The SPC's efforts may lead to a more dynamic and competitive market, ultimately benefiting consumers and businesses alike
