CBG White Whale
High-CBG cultivar: The White × OG Kush Hemp. CBG 9–14%, THC up to 1%, CBD 11–14%. Aroma — citrus, lemon, pepper, floral notes. The «mother» cannabinoid and the botany of CBG.
Cannabigerol and cannabis botany
Cannabinoids are synthesised in the glandular trichomes of cannabis (genus Cannabis, family Cannabaceae). Cannabigerol (CBG) is the precursor from which THC and CBD are formed in the plant; it is often called the «mother» cannabinoid. In most cultivars, by harvest time much of the CBG has already been converted into other compounds, so lines with high CBG are obtained by targeted breeding and early harvest or by using genetics with reduced activity of the enzymes that convert CBG into THC/CBD.
Cultivar and genetics
CBG White Whale is a cultivar bred to maximise CBG while keeping THC minimal. Lineage: The White × OG Kush Hemp. The White contributes dense, heavily trichome-covered flowers and a «white» appearance; OG Kush Hemp is a hemp line with low THC and a stable cannabinoid profile. Result: CBG in the range of 9–14%, CBD 11–14%, THC usually 0.1–1%. Type — balanced hybrid (around 50/50 indica/sativa) or slightly sativa-leaning. Flowers are small, heart-shaped, green with a golden tint, with bright orange pistils and golden-white trichomes.
Terpenes and effect
Aroma is dominated by citrus (lemon), sweet-sour and peppery notes; floral and herbal tones support. Effect — without marked intoxication: calm, mild mood lift, improved focus and sociability. The cultivar is sought by those looking for a therapeutic profile without strong psychoactive action; in research, CBG is studied in relation to inflammation, glaucoma, inflammatory bowel disease and bacterial infections.
In the botanical collection CBG White Whale is presented as an example of breeding for the «mother» cannabinoid and a high-CBG profile.
