Family and terpene profile

Cannabis (genus Cannabis, family Cannabaceae) accumulates terpenes in glandular trichomes — from citrus (limonene) to earthy and skunky (myrcene, caryophyllene and various sulphur-containing compounds). «Dessert» notes like vanilla, cream and caramel often come from terpene combinations and their oxidation products during drying and curing. Marshmallow OG combines classic OG/Chem genetics with modern «dessert» breeding.

Cultivar and breeding

Marshmallow OG was bred by the California seed bank Compound Genetics. Lineage: (Chemdog D × Triangle Kush) × Jet Fuel Gelato. Chemdog D contributes the intense skunk tone; Triangle Kush brings the signature OG body relaxation and structure; Jet Fuel Gelato adds flower density and a creamy-sweet profile. The cultivar gained wide recognition in the 2020–2021 season; phenotype stabilisation and microclone propagation were done by nurseries such as HendRx Nursery and Node Labs.

Awards and recognition

Marshmallow OG is one of the most awarded cultivars of recent years. Two-time High Times Cannabis Cup winner; winner of Best of Secret Sesh and Blazer's Cup; multiple Farmers Cup placements (including 1st in Indoor Flower). Featured in Leafly’s «11 best strains of harvest 2021»; by Leaflink data, top-selling flower in California (2019); best pre-roll in California per LA Weekly (2022) and Weedmaps (2023).

Terpenes, morphology and effect

Dominant terpenes are limonene, beta-caryophyllene and myrcene; linalool and pinene in support. Aroma when rubbed or consumed is described as earth, pine, skunk with vanilla and «toasted marshmallow» notes. Flowers are dense with abundant trichomes. Effect is deep body relaxation (OG/Kush line) with a clear head. In the botanical collection Marshmallow OG is presented as an example of modern California breeding and a cultivar with an outstanding competition record.
